It all started when…

Pier 1 in Boothbay Harbor has become a central hot spot for the area. With restaurants, retail shops and the major docking space for boat tours, the Pier has become a landmark for the peninsula. In 2019 The Windjammer Emporium became the most recent addition to the pier.

Mark and Dianne Gimbel’s dream of sharing the maritime history of the region with locals and visitors has come true with this new unique addition to the pier.

“I’ve always been interested in local history and have always wanted to have a local maritime museum,” Mark said. “We knew we wanted to do something a little different, so I said, ‘Why don’t we just combine our love of local maritime history with a retail store?”

They have dedicated 30% of the floor space to a FREE maritime history museum, that focuses on preserving and sharing the past and present maritime heritage. The remaining 70% offers shoppers unique gifts, house ware, clothing, made in Maine jams, jellies, and more.
